Deep Peeps: Searching For Celia

I Glass Celia

In honor of the Deep Peeps Kickstarter campaign I’m working on a special edition for deep peeps. Searching For Celia is a great rockin group that originated in good ol’ Provo. What I love about Searching For Celia is their original spin on contemporary/indie music. They use an innovative combination of sounds that is lovely and edgy all at the same time. Those clever kids!

This is my personal favorite:

Don’t forget to support and share the Deep Peeps Kickstarter!

Also, thank you so so much to everyone who has been supporting the Kickstarter. You all are awesome!

If you’re hesitant to pledge your support, consider that even a $5 pledge helps, it only takes 5 minutes to sign up for an account and support and also keep in mind that any money will be refunded if the Kickstarter doesn’t fund.

Thanks, See you for Spotlight Friday!

Saturday Morning Post: Kinsey Lewis

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this girl. Its kind of like love gushing everywhere.

It all started when I picked out my desk in the Illustration studio, unbeknownst of who the surrounding occupants would be. Lucky for me, I sat next to the girl who yells out the wittiest and most hilarious quotes left and right. As she was painting these rascally old cowboys who have gruffled voices and a mean stare, I would typically hear different variations of “Get yer hands offa my cake!”

Not only is she so funny, but she has an awesome quirky style that is all her own. She does great pen and color work, with her usual compositions revolving around wild boars and trolls. I dare say they are her two favorite things to draw. You can clearly see her love for Illustrator, Quentin Blake, who created the art for Roald Dahl’s books.

She also is amazing with these puppets for stop motion animation!

Mary Cassatt

Mary Cassatt

Mary Cassatt was an American born artist who fell in love with art when she was very young. She was determined to make a career in a difficult field where very few women were highly recognized, but to aspire to have a serious career in her time was a rarity in itself. She was able to study in France and became friends with Edgar Degas and associated her work with the Impressionist painters.

Not only did Cassatt achieve respect as a female artist, but she was an artist in an innovative and revolutionary style and is now known internationally for her art. She depicted women and families in a different light than was and is typical, placing them in everyday scenes and capturing small moments that are often overlooked.

Can you find the object I chose for her deep peep icon in her Cassatt’s most recognized piece?

Friday Spotlight: Jonathan Linton

I’ve been interning with Jonathan Linton (in addition to Rose Dall) and it has been awesome! Jonathan specializes in portraits and he is incredible in his technical rendering and capturing likeness and personality. He’s worked for some pretty well known people, he’s been contacted by large companies for commissions and he studied in cool places like Italy. But in spite of all of his success, he is just a really nice and down to earth family man kind of a guy!

He always tries to give me really good tips for my own career and he gives me bags of brushes to take home. (Which is seriously so great of him). My favorite thing is to discuss art philosophy with him! We talk about how art affects the world and how we as artists can be a force for good and help uplift other people. You know that I love that!

Also he is the co-founder of the Horizons Art School in Ashburn, VA so I spent some time this week making craft projects for art camps this summer. Sign up! I want to:

Paper & String Cupcake

To check out more of Jonathan’s work you can check out his website:

Also! Ok this is really cool. I spent today walking around my favorite town : ) While I was passing out flyers to all of the local boutiques and shops I landed an art gig for the Leesburg first friday walk! On June 7th you will find me at the ‘Books & Other Found Things’ Book shop accompanied by all of the Deep Peeps of course!

Around the corner my high school art teacher will be playing on his guitar. Oh that Rudinsky, haha!

Shameless Plea! If you or anyone you know likes to blog, ask them to give Deep Peeps a shout out! If you or someone you know would like to help promote and support Deep Peeps you can print out flyers and post them in your local community. The link is found on my Illustration facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/NormandieIllustration. Help these peeps become a reality…in the form of a book, cause I know they were already real and everything. Every bit counts more than you think!

A Shout Out to Mom, Deep Peeps and East Coast Livin’

This is my mom and she's awesome! Thanks mom for helping with everything!!!

This is my mom and she’s awesome! Thanks mom for helping with everything!!!

All the reasons my mom is so great:

She is super funny, spontaneous and definitely the life of the party!

She is crafty and colorful and has taught me much of her ways.

And TODAY (!!!) my mom advertised for my kickstarter on the radio! What a cool mom! 97.1 was asking about local kickstarter projects and my mom pulled over on the side of the road on her way to work to tell them about my Deep Peeps project! What the?! Go Mom!

Speaking of Deep Peeps, I know its been too long since you’ve all heard, but finally after working out the unexpected kinks, Deep Peeps kickstarter will be submitted for review TONIGHT and then it will launch A.S.A.P! I will let you all know!

If you want a sneak peak of the video…you can watch it, just don’t laugh too much at my geekiness and strange obsession with mustaches. Only a little bit!

And if you haven’t seen a preview of the first (and hopefully not last) round of shirts, check them out! They can be purchased at the Flower Basket Boutique in Provo and the Roll Up Crepes Cafe in Orem.

As far as intern life living goes it just can’t get much better than this! I wake up every morning to gorgeous trees and birds chirping. I get to drive the mini and people aren’t even irate when they drive behind me anymore because my stalling has decreased considerably! Last week it looked something like this:

Stick Shift Fiascos

But now I look like this again, even in rush hour traffic! Happy!

Metro Tunnel

Also I get to work with Rose Dall and Jonathan Linton on all kinds of really cool projects and life is just fantastic! I know, its like right out of high school musical, except the only dancing that happens is by myself in my house, but I have no plans of stoppin my jig!

Deep Peeps is comin baby!

And if you are in need of a last minute gift for your mom don’t forget to check out my etsy shop! Tomorrow is probably the last day I can get them to you if you order right now. Or if you’re located in Utah or the D.C. area of Virginia, let me know so I can get a card to you! See you for Spotlight Friday!
